Members of the States of Jersey

The present composition of the States, as determined by Article 2 of the States of Jersey Law 2005, is the Bailiff, the Lieutenant Governor, 12 Senators, 12 Constables, 29 Deputies, the Dean of Jersey, the Attorney General and the Solicitor General. The officers of the States are the Greffier of the States, the Deputy Greffier of the States and the Viscount.

The States of Jersey includes 53 elected members:

  • 12 Senators (elected for 6-year terms)
  • 12 Constables (heads of parishes elected for 3-year terms)
  • 29 Deputies (elected for 3-year terms)

The whole Island elects the Senators, while the Constables and Deputies are elected to one of a number of constituencies throughout the Island. All elected members of the States take office immediately after being sworn in before the Royal Court and remain in office until their term is completed.
